What Dynamic Menu Bar's welcome tour sets up, page by page

Dynamic Menu Bar opens a short tour the first time it runs. It asks for one permission, then walks through six choices, each with a clip of what it looks like on the screen, and every choice can be changed later in Settings. Here is what each page does.

Welcome

The first page says what the app is for and has one button, Let’s Start. Nothing happens to the menu bar yet.

Grant Permissions

One permission is required and two are optional.

• Screen Recording is the required one. Live mode reads the color of the screen just under the menu bar, and macOS gates that behind Screen Recording. Nothing is recorded or stored. macOS may ask you to quit and reopen the app after granting it; the tour picks up where you left off.
• Accessibility lets the Pill shape find where your menu items sit, so the pill can wrap them.
• System Audio is for the music visualizer. macOS asks for it the first time the visualizer actually runs, not here.

Set your overlay style

The next six pages are the same page with a different switch on it: a clip on the right, a toggle under it. Everything on them lives in Settings too, so a choice made here is never final.

1. Overlay shape. Full Bar covers the whole menu bar, edge to edge. Pill wraps the app’s menus in one floating pill and the status items in another.
2. Rounded Corners. Rounds the bottom corners of your screen to match the top.
3. Light Reflections. A soft light beam across the bar that follows your pointer.
4. Music Visualizer. Audio bars along the top edge of your screen while music plays.
5. Progress Bar. A playback progress line on the top edge of your screen; it disappears when idle.
6. Fill Window. The green traffic light fills the window instead of entering Full Screen, so the menu bar and your Spaces stay where they are.

Each of these has a card with its clip on the Essentials section of the features page, where the clip plays when you rest the pointer on it.

Your trial

Before the last page, the tour shows where you stand: on a first install it offers Start Free Trial, and once a trial or a license is on the Mac it shows the status instead, with Buy for 1 Mac, Buy for 3 Macs and I Already Have a License. Nothing here is required to finish the tour; Next moves on.

You’re all set

The last page confirms the overlay is active and offers two switches: Start at Login, and Show Dock Icon, off by default so the app stays a menu-bar-only app. View Settings opens the Settings window; Done closes the tour. From then on, Dynamic Menu Bar runs from its menu bar icon.
